The two are not mutually exclusive. Notifications are still broken, who knows what else isn’t at 100% .

If what you’re talking about is, you post a comment in a thread, then later you come back to that thread and your comment is absent, even if you click “show pending,” then I don’t think you’ve been “shadow-banned,” I just think the fun-loving Kinja developers got more loopy than usual at the GawkerCo company Xmas bash.

Today I left a comment on Splinter (where like everyone else I was recently demoted to the “greys”) and it didn’t show up even after “show pending ,” but a few minutes ago I got a notification that said “45 minutes ago...” and the rest was blank (Kinja bug-of-the-week for 12/9 - 12/15), and when I went to “your profile/discussions” I saw someone read that comment and starred it, so it must be visible to somebody out there, even if I can’t see it .

Here’s the picture I posted with that comment, based on an infographic that was actually published by the Wall Street Journal. This was their idea of how the tax change in 2013 would affect what they fancifully imagine is “the middle class,” to which I added the comments from the hard-pressed and over-taxed laborers:
